The SASSA disability grant is a social grant offered to South African citizens who have a permanent disability that prevents them from working and earning an income. The grant is intended to help support the basic needs of individuals who are unable to provide for themselves due to their disability.

To qualify for the SASSA disability grant, an individual must meet the following requirements:

Be a South African citizen, permanent resident or refugee.
Have a disability that prevents them from earning an income.
Be between the ages of 18 and 59.
Have little or no income or assets.
Not be receiving any other social grant.
Have a valid medical report from a medical doctor or clinic that confirms the disability.
Be assessed by a SASSA officer to determine eligibility for the grant.

If an individual meets these requirements, they can apply for the SASSA disability grant at their nearest SASSA office. The application process requires the individual to complete an application form and provide supporting documents, including a valid medical report confirming the disability, proof of income and assets, and proof of identity.

Once the application is processed and approved, the individual will receive a monthly payment of R1,890 (as of 2021) to help support their basic needs. The grant is paid on a monthly basis and can be collected at a local Post Office or through a bank account.

It’s important to note that the SASSA disability grant is a means-tested grant, which means that it is only available to those who meet the income and asset requirements. Additionally, the grant is subject to periodic reviews to ensure that the individual still meets the eligibility requirements. If the individual’s circumstances change, they are required to inform SASSA and their grant may be adjusted accordingly.
