The deadline for applications for the R350 Social Relief of Distress (SRD) grant is March 2019. One of the most common ways to submit an SRD grant application is online.

The South African government introduced the Social Relief of Distress (SRD) award, sometimes known as the R350 grant, as a new Sassa grant in response to Covid-19 and its repercussions on the economy.

Applicants must make sure they meet the requirements before applying:

• citizens, permanent residents, asylum seekers, refugees, and holders of special permits from South Africa

• Unemployed

• have no other means of assistance for your finances or a backup income source.

• between 18 and 60 years old\

• No other social funds, UIF, or NSFAS are received.

To apply for an R350 Grant Online in 2023-2024,

• Go to the SRD website and click the yellow bar next to “How do I apply for this SRD Grant” to start the application process.

• Submit your cellphone number.

• Enter the one-time pin Sassa has issued to the phone after clicking “send sms” to send an SMS.

• By completing the Sassa-required procedures, continue the application process.

You can also use WhatsApp to submit R350 grant applications by dialing:

• A contact number to add is 082 046 8553.

• Send a message to this number on Whatsapp.

• In the WhatsApp message, make sure to mention your name, last name, and ID number.

• The next steps will be described in a message you will thereafter receive.

• Given that SASSA will be engaging with other institutions to verify the information supplied by applicants, all applicants will need to sign a statement and consent form.

  You just need to submit an application once on one channel and not often across all channels. Only one application per applicant will be processed by Sassa. Once applications have been processed, SASSA will get in touch with the selected candidates.

Anyone in need can receive social assistance from the South African government. In South Africa, social handouts are governed by the SASSA. Those who need government support to raise their standard of living and who risk falling into poverty may be eligible for social grants. Parents with young children, the elderly, and people with disabilities are commonly included. To be eligible for a social grant, you must be a South African citizen, authorized permanent resident, or refugee (proof of such status must be provided). Also, they must be South African citizens.

A “means test” is used to a number of social benefits, such as child support, disability, care dependence, and social relieve of suffering. Based on your income and assets, SASSA will utilize the means test to assess if you are eligible for a social grant. The means test determines your eligibility for a grant designed for people who cannot afford to live independently.

Care dependency allowance

Parents of disabled children who work full-time may be eligible for benefits for care dependence. How much money will be dispersed overall as part of this grant?

If applicants haven’t heard anything about their filed application, they can check the status of their application below. Please follow the instructions below:

1. Visit the homepage for the SASSA SRD grant.

2. Go to the “Application Status” section.

3. Select “Click here to check online.”

4. Fill out the necessary information.

5. You should now be able to see the status of your R350 grant application.

6. By clicking on My application status, applicants may also learn more about the progress of their application.
